About the job
This role is responsible for developing and maintaining reliable relationships with local communities across designated therapeutic areas in the Germany. The focus is on implementing community-oriented projects, supporting patient education activities, reducing barriers to clinical trial access, and identifying practices that can advance health equity.

The Community Outreach and Engagement Manager will work in partnership with Sanofi-sponsored trial sites to support recruitment and retention activities, collect relevant data, and contribute to building Diversity in Clinical Trials (DICT) capabilities in the German market where this is an emerging field.

Important Context: DICT is a less mature concept in Germany and Europe compared to the US market. This role offers the opportunity to help shape and build community engagement approaches appropriate for the European healthcare context. You will receive structured feedback, coaching, and management alignment support as you develop in this role. Understanding of German compliance, code of practice, and integrity policy with regard to engaging patients will be a core competency.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Region-Specific Community Awareness, Outreach, and Engagement Strategy

Contribute to the development of country-level engagement strategies tailored to local communities, particularly in markets where DICT is an emerging concept. Work collaboratively with DICT leadership, Clinical Study Units (CSU), local government, public affairs and vendors to understand the local healthcare ecosystem and develop appropriate solutions to address community needs.

Activities include:

  • Co-develop community engagement activities and events with cross-functional teams
  • Monitor country-specific metrics and identify culturally appropriate engagement tactics
  • Support local digital/media strategy development
  • Identify and engage trusted messengers, local ambassadors, and potential investigators
  • Facilitate community feedback through focus groups and surveys

2. Community Engagement Implementation, Event Planning and Coordination

Plan and coordinate virtual and in-person events to build relationships among local community members and support positive health outcomes. Planning activities include venue research, logistical preparation, and outreach to confirm attendance.

3. Build and Maintain Relationships with Sites and Investigators

Develop constructive working relationships with relevant site stakeholders to support productive interactions between patients, sites, Sanofi, and the community.

Activities include:

  • Design strategies and tactics to link community engagement activities with the clinical trial sites, in partnership with the CSU.
  • Support processes that influence clinical trial operational performance
  • Promote digital tools and DICT implementation at site level
  • Collate feedback, prioritize issues, and recommend solutions

4. Key Markets and Target Populations

Responsible for determining appropriate communities in alignment with stakeholders for outreach engagement, including site diversity champions, local key opinion leaders (KOLs), and trusted messengers. Work with manager and regional team to determine engagement frequency and approach.
5. Vendor and Patient Advocacy Group Coordination

Identify and coordinate with local vendors that can support engagement efforts (e.g., mobile health units, pharmacies, marketing agencies). Collaborate with Sanofi Community Alliance Network (SCAN) vendors and other strategic partners to implement local events and activities.

6. Internal Engagement and Stakeholder Coordination

Coordinate with internal Sanofi stakeholders (Medical Science Liaisons, Local Study Managers, etc.) based on regional structures and ways of working. You will receive guidance on internal coordination processes and stakeholder mapping specific to your region.
7. Support Recruitment and Retention at Local Level

Work closely with Sanofi stakeholders to support sites in identifying potential study participants through community-based and in-office recruitment activities.
8. Site Issue Escalation and Communication

Support monitoring teams in communicating and resolving site issues to improve local quality. Help identify site resource and infrastructure gaps that may impact trial conduct.

9. Best Practices and Lessons Learned

Act as a local liaison and contribute subject matter expertise on clinical trial optimization based on community feedback. Collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure insights and best practices are documented, communicated, and shared to reduce operational complexities.

Onboarding, Coaching & Development Support

Structured Onboarding: You will receive comprehensive onboarding covering DICT principles, Sanofi's community engagement approach, relevant therapeutic areas, and the European clinical trial landscape.  Comprehensive compliance training will be provided covering patient engagement ethics, data protection, and regulatory requirements specific to the German/EU market.

Manager Feedback and Coaching: Regular coaching sessions with your manager will support your development in this role, particularly in navigating the cultural and operational differences between US and European approaches to diversity in clinical trials.

Peer Network: You will connect with the global DICT community of practice to share learnings, challenges, and best practices across regions.
